In January I photographed 2 centenarians (people 100 years old or over) for Time magazine. Onie Ponder, 111, and Leonard McCracken, 107, were born in a time before air travel, interstates and air conditioning.
I worked with picture editor Leslie dela Vega (now P.D. at Fast Company) to capture the centenarians personality. I was working in concert with 3 other photographers and going for what Leslie described as an “Avedon” look. I didn’t want the lighting to overwhelm the subject matter so I kept it simple.
